Good clean fun

This one is fun for kids OR adults. And you don't even have to write the science report I made my kids do after the experiment.

Step 1: Put an ordinary bar of Ivory soap (must be Ivory) in the microwave. Microwave for 2 minutes (or as long as you want).
Step 2: Observe results!!

Step 3: Watch what happens as it cools.

Step 4: Have fun making a HUGE mess with the results!
(you can't see the mess here, but Joseph crumbled it all up into little bitty bits and then we microwaved it again and it puffed up again!! So fun!)
Only thing to watch out for? Your kitchen will smell like Ivory soap for the rest of the day.

How magical!
Does it have to be Ivory soap?

It does have to be Ivory soap. Ivory soap is "the only soap that floats," you know, and that is crucial to the experiment. It is the tiny embedded air bubbles in the soap that expand and cause all the weirdness.
